Today marks the Statue of Liberty’s 139th birthday! Officially dedicated in New York Harbor in 1886, Lady Liberty was a gift from France to commemorate the centennial of the Declaration of Independence and celebrate the close relationship between the two nations.  

More than a million Americans and friends from across the globe gathered on that day to welcome a new symbol of Hope, Freedom, and Opportunity for All to New York Harbor—and Lady Liberty’s light has been shining ever since.
