About Visiting Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty
- Ellis Island Immigration Museum and Statue of Liberty are free.
- Ellis Island Museum is self-guided. Free public tours of Ellis Island given daily by the National Park Service. Times are posted at the Information Desk. National Park Service site for Ellis Island is www.nps.gov/elis.
- Monument Passes are needed to visit the museum in the Statue pedestal, which can be obtained free of charge from Statue Cruises with purchase of a Reserve ticket. A limited number of Monument Passes are available each day at the ticket booth by request on a first-come, first-serve basis. Crown tickets are $3 and can be purchased up to a year in advance through Statue Cruises. The National Park Service website for the Statue is www.nps.gov/stli.
- New audio tours for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are offered for a single fee of $8 Adults and $7.25 Seniors and Children under 12. Discounts for groups of ten or more. A children’s tour features animal characters as guides. Available through Statue Cruises or on site at the Discovery Audio booths on both islands.
- Ferry tickets may be purchased from Statue Cruises by calling 1-877-LADY TIX (1-877-523-9849) or visiting www.statuecruises.com. Ferry ticket prices: Adults $12.00, Seniors $10.00 and Children 4-12 $5.00. Group rates are available. For details, see Group Trips at www.statuecruises.com.
- Reserve Tickets for the ferry give visitors a specific day and time to arrive at the security screening zone and allow priority entry to security check-in, which saves visitors wait time at the departure point. Flex Tickets offer more flexibility, allowing visitors to make their trip once within a three day period. Flex Ticket holders can arrive anytime, but early arrival is suggested for security queue.
- Due to security procedures, visitors should allow about 45 minutes to stand in line before boarding the ferry, which picks up visitors both in Battery Park in New York City and Liberty State Park in Jersey City.
